Fears over the true state of health of APC presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), are still mounting. And even though some of his close aides, allies and associates have been shying away from making categorical statements on it, fellow politicians and some preachers of the gospel have begun getting interested and also doing it for them.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, in a statement issued on Thursday, January 15, 2015, had this to say about the alleged health challenge: “Why is Obasanjo going after an old horse that may collapse mid way? Nigerians should know the state of health of Buhari. His age and health cannot stand the rigours of the office. Nigerians deserve to know the health status of Buhari”.
Fayose and Obasanjo have been at loggerheads for quite sometime now. And both men hurl abuses at each other whenever the chance presents itself. The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, on his part, warned that “Buhari’s health needs attention”. This was contained in his 2015 prophesies. A prominent Northerner who begged not to be named yet told YES INTERNATIONAL! that he’s seriously suspecting a foul play. According to him, this was exactly how it happened in 2009 when former President Olusegun Obasanjo forced Yar’Adua on us knowing full well that the man was not okay.
“Obasanjo is PDP, but his body language is APC. So, I’m suspecting that he is up to something again. If Buhari is not fit medically, they should give us another candidate before it is too late and instead of waiting till we have another case of Yar’Adua on our hand. In fact, we don’t want what happened to Yar’Adua to happen to him otherwise there will be serious trouble o!”
Buhari, it would recalled, has had different stories flying around his health. Particularly after he allegedly failed to turn up at some of his party’s presidential rallies. Although his media team has vehemently denied this, many still believe that they are not telling the people the whole truth. Born on December 17, 1942, Buhari comes from the Fulani ethnic group in the Northern Nigeria. A native of Daura in Katsina State, he was Nigeria’s 7th Head of State and ruled between December 31, 1983 and August 27, 1985, when he was ousted by General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).
Very well respected for his anti-corruption and indiscipline stand, the retired Army General has held various positions in the past where he gave a good account of himself. His own coup truncated our 3rd Republic, easing out Alhaji Shehu Shagari from office. But it appears he has imbibed the good sides of democracy now. The 72-year-old former Governor of North Eastern State, Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Chairman, Petroleum Trust Fund, etc is plotting a comeback via the All Progressives Congress.
Meanwhile, this will be his fourth shot at reclaiming the position he won and also lost via a coup. Married initially to Safinatu, whom he later divorced, his new wife, Aisha, has five children for him, just like his first woman. So, all together, he has ten children – 8 girls and two boys. The 2015 presidential election, which he is taking part in, will hold on Saturday, February 14, 2015 – and running on the same ticket with him is Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, an erudite Law professor and Redeemed Church pastor.
