Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, yesterday, signed into law, a Bill prohibiting land grabbing, forcible entry on landed property, violent conducts, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other allied offences.
The event was witnessed by the Commissioner, Ogun State Police Command, Ahmed Illiyasu, State Director, Department of State Security Service, Kabiru Sali, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olumide Ayeni and other members of the State Executive Council, assured that the state would not be a comfort zone for any criminally-minded individual or group, especially the land grabbers, popularly called “omo oniles.”
Amosun, who assured that his administration would not allow criminals to operate in the state, said, “kidnapping is alien to us in this part of the country and we have come to put an end to it as it now attracts 25 years jail term.”
Speaking with journalists after the Bill was signed into law, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi said with the Bill signed “everybody would now sit tight and know that Ogun State is no hiding place for criminal elements.”
On his part, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illiyasu said this is a clarion call for all criminals in the state to change their ways.
The police boss assured that “henceforth, anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.”
