Yet to fully extricate itself from some heavy losses suffered so far, Guinness Nigeria Plc, led by Peter Ndegwa, has again landed in yet another major crisis. But unlike the first one bordering on the finances of the company with popular brands like Guinness Stout, Malta Guinness, Gordon Spark, Harp and so on, this time, it’s a battle with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
NAFDAC, like the agency headed by Paul Orhii is widely known, just accused Guinness of re-validating their expired raw materials and thus has slammed them with a N1 billion fine! Which must be paid in 2 weeks.
Guinness MD, Mr. Ndegwa, of course, has denied their engaging in anything unethical and also inimical to the health of their teeming consumers. Especially because they are a responsible and respected organisation that has been in existence since 1962 in Nigeria.
Specifically, NAFDAC accused Guinness of poor documentation and not complying with some of its documentation guidelines.
