The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, headed by Dr. Bukola Saraki, today, finally screened former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.
Amaechi is one of those whose names were sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari for screening as Ministers. His frosty relationship with his erstwhile Chief of Staff and successor, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the resistance put up by the Senators representing Rivers State, haven’t helped his screening. Thus, the drama and controversies trailing him until today when everything was resolved with his answering a few questions and being asked to take a bow and go.
Amaechi’s screening was so controversial that on three good occasions it was postponed. Even today when it eventually took place, the PDP Senators refused to ask him questions, leaving only his APC members to do so.
Amaechi told the Senators that he abhors corruption. He equally denied being indicted by any Commission of Enquiry in his State and assured all that he will deliver if handed a ministerial portfolio.
