He has the strangest name in the comedy world. Francis Agodan, the pencil-slim top comedian popularly known as I Go Dye, explains why here: ‘The name was carved out of my surname, Agodan. When I started (comedy) and was thinking of a name, the name (I Go Dye) just blended. But if I really had my way, I would have chosen Parrot because I talk a lot.’
Going further, he says, ‘Even when I was in secondary school, my friends used to call me Parrot. But it is good for one to keep something going. I thought of it and I carved it out and that was how I arrived at I Go Dye. What scares people is the die. They will say this young man wants to die.
‘But come to think of it, everybody wants to go to heaven everyday, including pastors. But could you believe I attended a church service in Edo State and the Bishop called me and said ‘You Go Dye…you really performed well’. I said my name is not You Go Dye, it’s I Go Dye. He was laughing.
‘He could not call the name, but if you want to go to heaven, the best way for you is to die. But actually, it’s not Die, it’s Dye.’
Finally he says ‘The only way to die in people’s lives is to change them with jokes.’
