Founder and President of Coscharis Motors, Dr. Cosmos Maduka, was one of the prominent Nigerians who showed their support for the Society of Landscape Architecture Students of Nigeria (SLASON), University of Lagos and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Monday, March 16, 2015, at the University of Lagos Guest House, where the students converged to proffer solutions to the menace of global warming and other salient landscape issues. Maduka, who chaired the event and is one of the biggest sponsors of SLASON, said: “We should not think that we would get away with our attitude of ignoring global warming by our activities in this country. Cars that are already discarded in Europe and other parts of the world are made to come here and (will be) dishing out pollution in the street which we are all inhaling, and some goes into the atmosphere, depleting the ozone layer day by day. We have seen rain falling in December and January in very odd hours and no control whatsoever. We have seen flood coming in an uncontrollable situation and we think all is well? What we are only saying is that blessed are the unborn for they shall inherit the national disaster. Those of us who are 50’s and 60’s should just live and enjoy our lives, but these young people have gathered themselves, appreciating what is going on and crying out now to say please help us to save the environment and let’s make this society a better place for the world and for the unborn to live in and that is why I’m here to support them by letting people know that this is real. This is not a make up, this is a cause that is worthy of all us buying into. It is a clarion call to all well meaning citizens of this country to help out”. Some of the landscape issues identified include desert encroachment, decertification, flooding, erosion, waste management, urban regeneration and city building, recreations and landscape advocacy campaigns, among others.
