For the Board, Management and Staff of Diamond Bank, these are just not the best of times. The financial institution’s headache started days ago when popular online news medium, Sahara Reporters, hit town with a shocking story that the bank, led by Uzoma, son of corporate titan, Paschal Dozie, was allegedly in trouble. And gradually slipping into distress.
The alarm bell immediately went off and panic took hold of many. Particularly those that bank with Diamond Bank. To douse the tension and perhaps also curtail its spread, the Central Bank of Nigeria immediately stepped in, dismissing the story as false, and assuring all that there’s no cause for alarm. Likewise the bank. According to CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, ‘There is no Nigerian bank that has capital adequacy problem today and all the news around that is false…’
For Mrs. Ayona Trimnell, Diamond Bank’s image maker, ‘Our customers, stakeholders and indeed the general public should please disregard the said report and be informed that the story is false, baseless, mischievous and attention-seeking…’
However, not withstanding their assurances, the rumour is still spreading and garnering believers and converts almost on a daily basis.
