Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has refuted claims that he was arrested yesterday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. According to him, he only went to the EFCC with his lawyers to clarify some issues relating to a petition filed against him.
The former Governor was released on bail in the presence of media entrepreneur and publisher, Mr. Wole Arisekola, his lawyers, Mr. Ricky Tarfa, SAN and Mr. Segun Odubela, who were with him at the EFCC office in Abuja.
Akpabio, it would be recalled, was accused of mismanaging about N108.1 billion of the State’s fund and also plunging it into huge debt, which he has repeatedly denied.
