On Tuesday, June 14, 2015, and while still away in the United States of America, from where he just graduated only weeks back, some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Parkview and Banana Island (both in Ikoyi, Lagos) homes of immediate-past Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, carting away cars and other belongings.
The security operatives were said to have arrived the two houses at about noon and were there till evening, searching for this and seizing that.
The house in Parkview is Obanikoro’s while the other is where his two sons, Jide and Gbolahan, reside. The three of them, it would be recalled, have continued to be linked to some not-too-tidy deals under the previous administration, for which they have insisted they are innocent. Now, the EFCC has struck, taking them unawares.
Obanikoro is unarguably Lagos’ luckiest politician. He’s been a Local Government Chairman, a Commissioner, a Senator, an Ambassador and a Minister.
