Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has charged women to emulate the virtues of Mama HID Awolowo, as her support for her husband during his life time had earned her a pride of place among women.
She said this during the Service of Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship organised to commemorate the death of the Matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo at her residence in Ikenne.
Mrs. Amosun added that the honour bestowed on mama during and after her death was well deserved considering the contributions she had made in the society, saying that every woman has a lesson to learn from her story.
“Mama was loved by both young and old and the legacy she left behind will be sustained by all. Ogun State and Nigeria will miss her”.
In his sermon, the founder of the Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, urged Nigerians to uphold the legacy left behind by the Premier of the Old Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying it was not for sale and must be sustained by all.
According to Pastor Bakare, the free education, and the establishment of the first television station in Africa among other legacies of the late sage, showed his level of commitment and selfless service to humanity and should be emulated for further development.
Pastor Bakare said Papa Awolowo called Mama H. I. D ‘’a jewel of inestimable value’’ because she spent all her life in honour and respect for her husband and everyone around her, charging everyone to emulate her good virtues.
Quoting from the book of Malachi 3:16-18, the fearless preacher charged the family members and all Nigerians to avoid idle talk and fear the Almighty God, noting that every idle word and lip service shall be judged.
“Mama is gone but keep the legacy alive because she deserves to be celebrated. Jewels are best even in death and after death’’, Bakare said. He Prayed for God’s mercy, strength and blessings for the family, adding that God would stand with them and keep them from evil.
