Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun has advocated the adoption of renewable energy and waste recycling to save the environment, particularly in view of the global warming.
She made the call at an awareness walk round the Abeokuta metropolis, tagged Green Walk, organised by a Non-Governmental Organisation, the Green Youth Movement, as part of activities to commemorate her 50th birthday and sensitise the people on the need to preserve the environment yesterday.
“We have to be creative and plant trees to sustain the environment. You can plant cash crop trees to earn a living,” she said.
The awareness walk, which took off from the Government House in Isale-Igbein through Sapon, Itoku, Ago-Oba, Totoro, Quarry road, Panseke to Omida and back to Government House, according to Mrs. Amosun, was staged to encourage the people of the state to plant trees to protect the environment from degradation.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Dayo Adeneye urged the people of the state to embrace cleanliness as a way of life to enhance environmental sustainability.
Coordinator of the Green Youth Movement, Mrs. Ebunlomo Tayese commended the wife of the governor over her various initiatives on going green, charging the youths in the state to embrace the green culture.
