Igbo big boy and businessman, Everest Nnaji, has been tasting the other side of life. The Nkanu, Enugu State born owner of OAS Helicopters (with headquarters in Maryland, Lagos) was arrested days back by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly engaging in 419! According to EFCC, Nnaji, a one time Senatorial candidate on the platform of UNCP and owner of Electrostatic, which later packed up, alongside one Victor Uadiale, allegedly conned a businessman from the middle east of $7.9 million. The dummy they allegedly sold to the man was a non-existent business, which is widely known here as 419. And gradually, the man started coughing out money N1.6m, N1.3m, €894 and $275. “A sum of $1.3m was traced to a Barclay’s Bank (United Kingdom) account of Captain Nnaji Everest, a member of Uadiale’s syndicate…”, said EFCC.
In Enugu and Lagos right now, many are wondering what could have gotten Nnaji, especially, into this, considering his current status. Beside being a pilot, he’s made so much money already. He even has helicopters with which he runs OAS. Millions were also doled out to acquire Laparias for the building which currently houses the company by him.
Said a source: “The man has been in money for long. I attended the same polytechnic (OSISATECH in Enugu) with one of the younger sisters, Edith or Judith. She was very loaded as a student, courtesy the brother; which explains why what is happening now is so shocking to many.” In his 50s, slim and on the dark side, the businessman who loves turning out in suits in widely known as Odengene. OAS, as a matter of fact, stands for Odengene Air Services. Founded years ago, Nnaji was once involved in an aircrash with one of his helicopters which he miraculously survived. He is still in detention and will be arraigned in court very, very soon.
