At last, the dreaded Islamist group, Boko Haram and the Federal Government of Nigeria have reached a ceasefire agreement. And what that means is that henceforth there will be no more wasting of innocent lives as well as the wanton destruction of property by them.
The ceasefire agreement was reached in Saudi Arabia between the group and President Goodluck Jonathan’s Adviser, Amb. Hassan Tukur, with support from officials from Chad and Cameroun. When concluded, with all the terms agreed upon sorted out, the over 200 schools girls kidnapped by the group in Chibok, Borno State, some months ago, will be released. Peace, likewise, will also return to some parts of Northern Nigeria which for a long time had been under their torment and torture.
The anti-western education group, founded by the late Mohammed Yusuf, has been reigning in the North for years. Now under the new leadership of Abubakar Shekau, they have finally made up their minds to embrace peace and dialogue. Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, has since confirmed it.
