The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has lauded Globacom for supporting its arbitration confab in Nigeria saying, there is a bright future for arbitration in Africa judging by the massive support received from such continental business giants as Globacom.
Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the First International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Africa Regional Arbitration Conference, Mrs Dorothy Udeme-Ufot, said this at a press conference to formally announce the conference that is to take place in Lagos from June 19 to 21.
She enthused that the support shown by leading corporate bodies in Nigeria has been incredible and overwhelming.
“Nigeria’s data grandmasters, Globacom, led the way by offering us a massive financial support to ensure the successful hosting of this event in Nigeria. Once Globacom supported us, it has been success all the way. Every other corporate body we turned to accepted to offer us their support in various capacities,” she posited.
While expressing special gratitude to the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jnr, for believing in arbitration and accepting to be part of the continent’s first ICC arbitration, Mrs Udeme-Ufot also thanked all other sponsors of the conference.
The conference is at the instance of the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration in conjunction with the International Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria.
It is designed to focus on the relationship between inward foreign investment in emerging markets in Africa, the types of disputes which may arise, and the African experience in arbitration proceedings.
The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will be the Special Guest of Honour while other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion from the private and government sectors.
Mrs. Udeme-Ufot further disclosed that resource experts are expected from Australia and other parts of the world to be part of the arbitration conference. The conference, according to her, would be among the best conferences ever held in Nigeria in terms of the quality of resource persons assembled from across the world.
Globacom, the major sponsor of the conference, had earlier said in a press statement that the summit would help to advance the cause of justice in Nigeria and help the business community, especially through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
The company described the conference as timely and consistent with the rising profile of alternative dispute resolution globally.
