The February 14, 2015 presidential election will be between President Goodluck Jonathan and former military ruler, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari clinched the All Progressives Party (APC) ticket on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, having defeated the likes of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Musa Kwankwaso of Kano and publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah. Buhari polled 3430 votes; Kwankwaso – 974; Atiku – 954; Okorocha – 624 and Nda-Isaiah – 10. Buhari, 72 and from Daura, Katsina State, had lost the presidential election earlier to Jonathan in 2011. Meanwhile, this will be his fifth time of running. For running mates, Jonathan chose his deputy, Arc. Namadi Sambo while Buhari may settle for Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.
