The Lagos State Government has commended Globacom for supporting, for the second consecutive time, the astonishing innovations introduced by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration to the annual Lagos State Countdown to a new year now tagged, One Lagos Fiesta.
Globacom was the exclusive telecommunications partner of the event which held between 24 and 31 December, 2016. In addition to the sponsorship, Globacom built colourful stands at all the five centres of the event including Victoria Island, Agege, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and equipped them with various recreation facilities for the enjoyment of thousands of fun seekers.
In a letter addressed to Globacom management and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Jamiu Adewale Ashimi, the state government thanked the telecom company for lending its massive support to the innovative programme.
The state government said Globacom’s immense contribution to the successful organisation of the fiesta was acknowledged and commended by the state’s authorities.
“We are happy to report, based on the feedback received so far, that the fiesta has been a remarkable success with wide acceptance amongst the populace. The fiesta also attracted visitors from neighbouring states and countries,” the letter said.
The state government prayed that the foremost telecommunications company would continue to grow from strength to strength.
“Once again, we thank you immensely for believing in this programme and getting involved with your time and resources and we hope the programme will continue to offer you the platform to amplify, brand and leverage on subsequent editions to the fullest.”
The fiesta climaxed on the eve of the New Year with the grand finale which featured many of Nigeria’s foremost musicians including popular rapper and Globacom brand ambassador, MI.
The grand finale which was held at the Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos also witnessed the crowning of the winners of a talent hunt show christened Lagos Has Got Talent in which youths across the five major divisions of the state competed in the areas of dance, rap, comedy and drama.
Master Ogunlaja Ahmed a.k.a Mr. Dollar from Epe Division emerged the overall winner, while Blessing Akiote (Agege) and Flexible Twist from Ikorodu emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
The winners went home with fantastic prizes from the state government and Globacom.
