The noise and drama were unprecedented. Likewise the earnings in the history of boxing.
The whole thing, however, came to an end in the 10th round with the eventual winner, Floyd Mayweather, pocketing about $200 million and the loser, Conor McGregor, about $100 million.
The Saturday, August 26, 2017 money-spinning fight which held inside the T-Mobile Arena in the United States of America, hopefully, is going to be Mayweather’s last fight – having retired two years ago. It will also be the much-needed crown on his victorious 50-bouts all-win career.
Initially standing up to Mayweather, the weather literally changed for the winner in the seventh round when his two left hooks destabilized McGregor. And sensing that he couldn’t continue in the tenth round, referee Robert Byrd quickly stepped in, declaring a technical knockout and with McGregor already lurching across the ring, following another very hard left punch.
The winner is 40 and the loser in his 20s. Many boxing buffs, of course, had expected McGregor to deploy his youthfulness in checkmating Mayweather. But alas experience and age united to give victory to Mayweather.
