star actress, Mercy Johnson, has commended Intercontinental Distillers Limited (IDL), for their dedicated work in encouraging and celebrating the resilient Nigerian spirit. She stated this at the launch of the company’s lounge, Spirit of Naija Bar, which held at IDL Corporate Headquarters, in Ikeja, Lagos. The lounge was dedicated to celebrating Nigerian achievers, both past and present. The Spirit of Naija was indeed fun-filled as Nigerians came out in droves to witness the event. The cosy lounge was beautifully decorated with pictures of all time musical prodigies such as Fela Anikulapo-Kuti; past sport legends such as Kanu Nwankwo; movie stars such as Genevieve Nnaji and Mercy Johnson. Speaking on the idea behind the Spirit of Naija Bar, Engr. Patrick Anegbe, the Managing Director, Intercontinental Distillers Limited, explained that ‘The pictures that are engraved on the walls of the Spirit of Naija Bar are pictures of great Nigerian actors, musicians, Nollywood stars, footballers, leading lights who have made us proud’. Speaking further, he noted that ‘they have indeed conquered within the country and beyond the shores. This is the true Nigerian spirit that we at IDL and in extension this lounge believe in, are proud of and celebrate. We say thank you to our stars that have made us proud and we say Yes, You Can to those who are still striving. We may not be there yet, but if we believe, the possibilities are endless’. Acclaimed movie star, Mercy Johnson, noted that the lounge indeed serves as an inspiration to those who step into it. ‘It gives you hope when you see the Kanu Nwankwos, Genevieve Nnajis, Mercy Johnsons and many others in there. IDL is preaching hard work. You work hard, this is what you are going to get. It really gives you the urge to do better’. Compered by award-winning comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, the event was star-studded. Among the attendees were Charles Novia, Chico Ejiro, Chisom Mbong , Fred Amata, Emeka Ossai, Collins Onwochei, Godwin Sagbama, etc. Speaking excitedly at the event, Innocent Oboh, Head of Marketing, IDL, explained that ‘We took that resilient spirit of Nigeria into making the Spirit of Naija Bar. This lounge will give IDL and Nigerians the opportunity to bring out the authenticity in us. The message from us at IDL with this bar is let’s soar in the spirit of Naija!’ Indeed, IDL has over the years proven its commitment to Nigeria. The company has earned itself the toga of championing the true Nigerian spirit.
