The old days of ‘Bow and Go’ are gone – according to Senator Dino Melaye, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity. He also revealed that the 21 ministerial nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari will undergo serious screening before being allowed to be assigned portfolios.
‘We are going to screen all the nominees thoroughly and diligently’, he assured. Adding that all petitions so far received against any nominee will equally be well investigated. Already, the three Senators representing Rivers State in the Upper House are kicking against their nominee, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Some people in Oyo State are also not happy with their nominee and have been wearing a frown.
Meanwhile, all the 21 nominees whose names Buhari has sent to the Senate will be screened on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Among them are Babatunde Fashola, SAN, Dr. Chris Ngige, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Kemi Adeosun…
YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine, again, gathered that even as the first batch of ministers are yet to be screened, intense lobbying has begun for the remaining slots. And among those whose names are now coming up are former MD of Nigerian Breweries, Eze Festus Odimegwu, Engr. Barth Nnaji, hitherto in charge of the Power Ministry and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, one time Governor of Osun State.
The Senate is headed by Dr. Bukola Saraki, hitherto the Governor of Kwara State. Saraki was also succeeded by Amaechi as the Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum before it was bedeviled by a monumental crisis, which also factionalized it.
