The Super Eagles camp in Belgium is still on fire – following the replacement of the Captain, Vincent Enyeama, by the Coach, Sunday Oliseh. Enyeama, Lille and Super Eagles goalkeeper, was replaced by Ahmed Musa of SKA Moscow by the coach after Enyeama reported late to the camp on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
Expectedly, Enyeama has not been happy – with some people supporting him and others against him. Those in the former group said Oliseh shouldn’t have done this, knowing full well that Enyeama was late by only one day and because of his mother’s burial days before. But those in the latter group are saying that as the Captain he should have discussed his late arrival with his Coach.
Commenting on the raging issue on his Instagram page, Enyeama had complained thus:’…Now the thought of being stripped naked and security agents throwing me out breaks me completely…’ The goal keeper who has been in the National Team for 13 years now was kicked out after being de-camped, before some people waded in and he was recalled. But without his Captain’s band restored.
Obviously unhappy with the on-going drama, journalist and lawyer, Richard Akinola, summed up his displeasure thus:’ You directed your players to report to camp in Belgium latest by Monday. Your Captain buried his mum on Saturday in Akwa Ibom. He got to Belgium on Tuesday, a day after deadline. He tried to apologise, giving the excuse of his mother’s burial for coming late and you ordered him out of camp…When Oliseh was appointed, some people mentioned his bad temper may be his albatross. It’s beginning to manifest’.
One of those in support of Oliseh, however, said Nigerians should quit being sentimental, and rather embrace professionalism. ‘ Oliseh has to maintain discipline in camp and one of the best ways to begin that is by being hard on his Captain, otherwise others will follow suit’.
