M ultichoice, Africa’s number one pay TV and digital satellite television, brought smiles to the faces of over one thousand fans and guests recently as they gave out multi-million naira new DSTV Explora which costs N65,000 to guests during their 20th anniversary in Nigeria, tagged The Journey, at the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The Journey, which was directed by Segun Adefila of the renowned Crown Troupe, tells the Multichoice story in 20 years, using drama, dance and music. It’s a compelling chronicle that borrows from Nigeria’s rich and cultural heritage and underscores one company’s uncommon contribution to multiple aspects of Nigerian life and living. The event which featured the best of Nigerian artistes like 2Face Idibia, Omawumi, Daddy Showkey, Waje and Seyi Shay also had some of the best in both English and Yoruba movie sectors. The likes of Kate Henshaw, Funke Akindele, Oge Okoye, Jide Kosoko, Zack Orji, Akin Lewis and so many others. The Managing Director, Multichoice Nigeria, Mr. Segun Adegunte, said among other reasons for the celebration is that “our leadership in technology and innovation saw Multichoice Africa being the first to launch mobile television on the continent as well as the first to launch the latest DTT network on DVB-T2. We were able to create the first visual digital satellite television in Africa and second in the world. We brought a new innovative market to Nigeria with great service delivery. The company needed to create credibility and benchmark when we started in Nigeria in 1993, to enhance our reputation and through the long and hard journey which I would say has been worthwhile, as you can see today, has been a success story. We have become the largest local content provider, specifically created to cater for Africa’s diverse culture and language market, especially through African Magic, which features more channels for the viewers. As one of the biggest investors in Nigeria, Multichoice is committed to promoting Africa’s culture in sports as we did in 1996 and the just concluded under 17 world cup which Nigeria won and many more. We are not going to stop here. This is just the beginning because when we are 21, we would have more commitment to the people of Nigeria”.
