Globacom, the next generation network, again has garnered the highest number of new sign-ons of internet data users in Nigeria according to the latest numbers from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
According to the statistics for the third quarter of 2015 released on the NCC website, Globacom gained the highest number of internet users in September of 2015 with over a million new internet users on its network.
Quoting the NCC, Globacom had 21,896,229 internet users on its network as at the end of September, up from 20,765,379 data users in August. The figure showed an addition of 1,130,850 new internet subscribers.
Globacom’s figure was much more than the total number of new internet users who joined the three other major telecom operators, MTN, Airtel and Etisalat. The three recorded a combined total of 716,450 new internet subscribers in September.
MTN recorded an additional 423,448 new internet users on its network to place second. Airtel placed third with 235,941 new subscribers, while Etisalat recorded the least number of new internet users in the industry with additional 57,061 new data subscribers joining the network in September.
Globacom has for several months been leading the race for the acquisition of new internet users in the market. For instance, the network added 1,434,830 data users last August, while MTN recorded 309,960 and Etisalat 147,149 new internet surfers. Airtel on its part had a drop of 110,838.
The growing numbers of data subscribers on the Globacom network is said to be a fallout of the improved data services which followed the network improvement exercise being carried out by the company. Globacom has also launched several attractive and user-friendly packages which offer a lot of appeal to data users.
Notably, the company recently launched the Free Tomorrowpromo which calculates all the value of airtime a subscriber uses in a day for internet services, phone calls and SMS, doubles the value and credits the subscriber’s phone by 12 midnight with the value.
The company also scored another first in the data market with Campus Booster, a special data plan that allows students and others on campus to get up to eight times more data value whenever they use their Glo lines on campuses.
Additionally, the Bumper Data Offer under which a N3,000 data plan gives subscribers 6GB data valid for one month, while a N4000 data plan gives 9GB data plan valid for a month.
And the Twin Bash, launched in November, gives subscribers who recharge with N200, up to 200 MB of data worth N800, along with full value of the airtime recharged. The Twin Bash recharge, which is the best deal for voice and data in Nigeria can be subscribed to by dialling *223*pin#. The Twin Bash offer is also available on the N500, N1000 and N2000 data recharge plans.
