The unending crisis rocking the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress recently took another dimension as the National Working Committee inaugurated the chairmen of the 36 states of the federation, on Wednesday, June 5, 2014, in Abuja, including Alhaji Adeniji, who belongs to the caucus of the governor of the state, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun. It should be recalled that the party held parallel congresses in the state and the battle for the control of the party has been on-going ever since. With the swearing in of Adeniji, popularly called Baba Computer, the stage is now set for the mother of all wars between the camps loyal to Aremo Segun Osoba, which has all the senators in the state, 6 Federal House of Representatives members and almost half of the State Assembly and the group loyal to Governor Amosun, which consists basically of political office holders and a few known political stalwarts from the state. Chief Osoba, expectedly, called a meeting or rally of his opposing sect, asking them to “await the boat taking them to the promised land”, a gathering that was well attended with representations from all the states’s LG. As it is, there are hints of Osoba’s group defecting. This was made more evident as Osoba and his caucus boycotted the National Congress of the party held recently in Abuja. Political pundits have, however, opined that with the recent occurrences, the stage is almost set for a repeat of the not-too-distant 2011 general elections between Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state.
