The very beautiful wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, as part of efforts to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, empowered over 300 women in the state living with HIV/AIDS. Items distributed to them included freezers, hair dryers, sewing machines, among others. Held at the main bowl of the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, on Saturday, March 8 2014, the First Lady, in her address, expressed deep concern over recent reports indicating that 72,000, out of the 400,000 HIV infected children born worldwide, are Nigerians, adding that Ogun State has resolved to effect change in the trend in such a way that would make people love people living with the virus rather than stigmatize them. In her words: “If you are not infected, you are affected”. The gesture, according to her, is to empower the women in order for them to be self-sufficient and also be able to take care of themselves and if possible, their immediate families.
