Ex-Governor James Ibori’s mistress, Udoamaka Onuigbo, is now free. The woman who was tried, convicted and jailed in the United Kingdom for helping Ibori launder billions of Delta people’s money stepped out of prison weeks back, having completed her jail term. And upon her arrival in Nigeria, one of the first things she did was to go for a special thanksgiving at the Banana Island, Lagos parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God. The Sunday, June 10, 2012 event was officiated by the easy going and highly respected Prof. Yemi Osibajo, SAN, who at some point was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State. Adorning a brownish and flowery Ankara (sewn into skirt and blouse), Osibajo advised her to go and sin no more, like Jesus did in the Bible and also to desist from having anything that could contaminate her further. He thereafter prayed for her and wished her well.
I was told that Udoamaka and her friends departed the church service for her house where they had a one-in-town freedom party. Ms. Udoamaka Onuigbo was jailed for five years, alongside Ibori’s wife, Theresa; sister – Christine Ibori-Ibie and lawyer – Bhadresh Gohil for their ignominous roles in the monumental Ibori scam, estimated to be over £250 million. But having served out her term, she’s once again enjoying the sweet air of freedom and at the same time partying and praising God.
