When will PDP put their house in order?
That is the question that many are now asking, especially with the Saturday, May 21, 2016 removal of their controversial National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Sheriff’s ouster, we learnt, was championed by Prof. Jerry Gana and Sen. Ibrahim Mantu. But ably supported by other party members who never wanted Sheriff to lead them.
The PDP Governors were convinced at some point, thus they withdrew their support from Sheriff, leaving him vulnerable and with no other option than to bow out and save face by hurriedly organizing a press conference where he announced the postponement of the Port Harcourt Convention.
Via text messages, intrigues and political alignments quickly initiated, the delegates were told to ‘Reject Sheriff’, which was eventually what happened.
Sheriff’s offence was allegedly reneging on their 3-months agreement as his tenure. And again his alleged interest in the 2019 presidential election.
Even two of his biggest supporters, Governors Ayo Fayose and Nyesom Wike, were said to have withdrawn their support at some point and after seeing the mounting opposition against him.
The court injunction angle is said to be a face-saving alibi. Meanwhile, the party is still being factionalized more and more.
