Majorly a Christian affair, some Muslims, no doubt, also partake in the fun and merriment that usually accompany it. We are talking about Christmas, one of the most popular events celebrated all over the world every December 25 to mark the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the son of the Most High God.
Enjoyed mostly in the company of our families and loved ones, some prominent Nigerians, unfortunately, will not be permitted that privilege and honour today. Of course, this is not because they wouldn’t have preferred to, but rather because they are currently in one trouble or another and thus have had their movements restricted. They are in detention or at one prison or the other where their freedom will not be decided until after the Christmas celebration.
In this first part of YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine’s series on Prominent Nigerians Who Will Celebrate Christmas In Prisons, we shall be serving you their identities as well as how and why they landed in prisons:
1. Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd – The immediate-past National Security Adviser. Dasuki is enmeshed in an alleged $2.2 billion arms procurement scandal.
2. Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa – Former Governor of Sokoto State. He was also implicated in the alleged messy arms scandal.
3. Alhaji Bashir Yuguda – An erstwhile Minister of State for Finance. He’s equally involved in the alleged lingering arms purchase bazaar.
4. Nnamdi Kanu – The front man of IPOB, i.e Independent People of Biafra. The secession preacher was accused of terrorism et al by the Federal Government.
5. Patrick Akpobolokemi – Hitherto the NIMASA boss, Mr. Akpobolokemi has been accused of myriad financial infractions running into millions of Naira by the Federal Government.
