The whole of Abeokuta metropolis was grounded on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 as the former Governor of the Gateway State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, with thousands of his followers, including political stalwarts of the PDP, at both the state and federal levels, stormed the PDP State Secretariat, IBB Boulevard, Abeokuta, for the unification rally to welcome the ex-Governor and his people back into the PDP. However, many do not know that the Olunla of Egbaland decided to go back for three strategic reasons. One, The Presidency, we heard, was said to have told OGD that he cannot continue to be in an opposition party and be its South West campaign coordinator; second, sources close to Asoludero court of OGD squealed that the possibility of going into the elections with Labour party while having to deal with state and federal security apparatuses will be a huge mountain to climb, and third, if there is no alliance, the votes will be shared and the incumbency factor will play a major role, thereby leading to what happened in the 2011 elections again. These reasons, including acceptability and funding, were said to be instrumental to the decision to return to the PDP. Their aspirants hitherto under the Labour Party are said to have been given a blanket waiver so that they can equally contest the primaries of the party.
