Alarmed and shocked and ashamed. That was how some members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David and Maranatha Parishes, Victoria Island, Lagos summed up their reaction after YES INTERNATIONAL! magazine exclusively broke the story of the collapse of two of their members’ marriage after only six days! The members – comedian Edo Charles and singer Vera Adiche, a member of the popular Sharp Band – were married for just six days before packing it up, after a hot argument. The first parish is under the leadership of Mr. Ben Akabueze, a former bank MD and current Commissioner for Budget and Planning in Lagos State and the second, Mr. Brown Oyitse. Two of the biggest Redeemed parishes, both are attended majorly by the high and the mighty. The estranged couple, who are currently in court, particularly the husband, is very popular there due to the nature of his work and also because he anchors most of their programmes. “In fact, that is what surprises some of us. We didn’t know they were having issues. Moreso, one that is as serious and scandalous as this. It’s really a pity!” Vera and Edo Charles tied the knots on November 27, 2010 at The Redeemed Church only to call it quits six days later. The woman is accusing the man of ill-treatment and the man is accusing her of adultery. According to the latter’s allegation, the woman is not only sleeping with her boss and leader of the Sharp Band, Anesi Igharue, she is currently pregnant for him. We also learnt that her boss whose baby she’s now carrying rented a flat for her inside Jakande Estate, Ajah where she now lives. Anesi and Vera initially feigned ignorance when we contacted them over the allegation. However, Anesi’s wife, Blossom, who claims she was upstaged from her matrimonial home by Vera, confirmed it. Hear what the mother of three told us when we reached her on Thursday, July 3, 2014: “Yes, the story is true…This Vera issue has been there for long. It’s an open secret. I’m separated from my husband as a result of this…I had three children for him and he had two other issues before we got married, making five children that are under my care…” In hushed tones and even publicly, the story is now the talk-of-the-town with some even joking that the couple deserves a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for not allowing their union to even clock one week before allowing it to crumble. Interestingly, the groom, from Benin City, Edo State and the bride, from Ibusa, Delta State, courted for about 10 years. But no sooner did they make their relationship formal than crisis erupted, tearing them apart and subsequently landing them in the court where they are now slugging it out to officially dissolve the union.
