Otunba Dayo Adeneye, aka D1, hails from Ibefun in Ogun State. A dedicated father of four – Nicole, Bryan, Ashley and Jasmine, he is married to Caroline, a lawyer cum businesswoman, whom his late father wooed for him! Yes, Mrs. Adeneye, from Edo State, used to be the old man’s tenant in Yaba, Lagos and he was so enamoured by her good behavior and character that when his son wanted to marry he recommended her without thinking about it twice.
54 years of age, he read Business Administration for his first degree while his Masters was in Mass Communication (at the Southern University, New Orleans, United States of America).
The show biz great turned politician actually moved to the U.S. soon after his secondary education. But returned 20 years later to berth PrimeTime with his friend and partner, Kenny Ogungbe. And together they changed the face of show business in Nigeria.
D1, also the owner of D&C Hotel in Ikorodu and Sierra Events, delved into politics in October 2014. He ran for a House of Assembly seat, with the intention of representing the people of Odogbolu, but was prevailed upon by the party elders to step down for another candidate. Which he did as a loyal party member – All Progressives Congress, APC. The Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, initially drew him closer with a smaller appointment and now this big one – Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
A good looking gentleman and dresser, D1 has been involved with the media and entertainment nearly all his life and as such will surely deliver. In fact, Gov. Amosun, in settling for him as the right man for the job, must have taken into cognizance his level of exposure, immense contact in the media and the value he is bound to add to the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
Undoubtedly a square peg in a square hole, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, began his media career with Raypower and AIT, owned by Chief Raymond Dokpesi, before later going into partnership with Kenny Ogungbe, the result of which still stands today as PrimeTime.
In his first interview with YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine, and soon after being assigned the portfolio on Thursday, October 29, 2015, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he had gushed that he was ‘elated…so, so elated’ and can’t thank Gov. Amosun enough for having so much confidence in him and also for asking him to oversee the Information Ministry.
