The organizer of Miss Ajegunle, Peter Umeh, visited YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine’s office on April 12, 2016; where he gave an insight into the forthcoming pageant in a chat with JULIET IKEOKWU and JENNIFER ORJI. Excerpts…
It is the vision of my brother, Henry Umeh, who is the CEO and his aim is to change the perception that people have of Ajegunle. The idea was borne out of the interest to create a platform where the raw talents and natural attributes of the girl child are harnessed and projected through pageantry and to also celebrate the beauty and totality of the woman from the famous Ajegunle.
From a sample opinion carried out on the residents of Ajegunle, it is obvious that an event of this magnitude has not occurred in a long time. So, we find it important to bring back great entertainment to a community that has yearned for it, a community that has produced some of Nigeria’s finest artistes that we all celebrate today. To let people know that beautiful people or queens come can come out of Ajegunle, not only musicians. Also to prove that something good can come from the area as well.
Is the pageant open to women of all sizes or are you looking for a particular size and height?
Just like in most pageants, we are looking for tall, slim girls between the ages of 17 to 23 that will hopefully represent Ajegunle in the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant as well as Miss World or Miss Universe. We have the necessary things to make sure they get to that level. Therefore, we are looking for the best. She must be charismatic, bold and beautiful. Also it is for people who live or have lived in Ajegunle. Like our slogan says: “There are queens in our streets”.
