The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said his government is determined not to allow itself to be held to ransom by any group or individuals for selfish, parochial and ulterior motives.
Speaking at the 2017 Budget Town Hall Meeting held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta yesterday, the governor, who was apparently commenting on the strike action called by some labour leaders in the state, said, “the era of playing politics under the guise of labour movement and agitation for improved welfare and condition of service is over and gone for good in Ogun State.
“People that are interested in politics should have the courage and honour to resign and join the politicians. This is in no way trying to abridge the right of our people to agitate for better or improved condition of living, but in doing so, we should allow reason, consideration for other stakeholders and general interest of the state to prevail. This is the only way to ensure the continued development of the state”,
He noted that despite the challenges currently facing the nation, the state has remained afloat by being one of the few ones paying workers salary as and when due.
The governor therefore solicited the support of all, saying, “it is pertinent to remind us that we all need to come together again to sustain and increase the achievements of the last five and half years. It is only when we do this that we will take our state to the desired height.”
Amosun assured of his government’s unwavering commitment and service to the development of the state and the improvement in the living standards of the people, adding that it is “set on an irreversible journey to take our state to greater heights.
“I cannot end this address without reiterating our administrations unwavering commitment to the continued development of Ogun State and all our people, irrespective of classification of gender, location, religion or job stratification.
“But in doing this, it is also important to note that no group or individual can be more important than the state that binds all of us together.
“In as much as people talk and appreciate several projects that we have executed (schools, hospitals, roads, housing estates, the number of new industries, power etc.), I would love to be remembered mostly for establishing and sustaining a system-driven environment.
“Once again, I crave your continued support and understanding which this 2017 Budget Town Hall Meeting seeks to promote as we set on an irreversible journey to take our State to greater heights”, he said.
