Mr. Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, has just scored a major political goal.
Bello, who stepped into Prince Abubakar Audu’s waiting shoes as the Governor following the man’s shocking death hours to being declared winner, just named Kogi State University, in Ayangba, after Audu. Thus winning more of Audu’s loyalists to his side and also depleting the camp of his biggest rival, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.
Faleke was late Audu’s running mate and had dragged both Bello and his party, APC, to court for not giving him the go-ahead to step into Audu’s shot. Unfortunately, he lost at the tribunal.
Audu, the first democratically elected Governor of Kogi State, interestingly, built the university and also named it after himself.
However, upon being succeeded by Ibrahim Idris, the man changed the name to Kogi State University. Now it has been reversed.
Built in 1991, the name was first changed in 2004 and again in 2016.
Said the Governor: An executive will soon be sent to the Kogi House of Assembly, which is currently in disarray, to formalize the change in name.
