Uju Onyechere Live: SERVICE

Some years ago, I was a member of a church until a certain pastor was posted to us from the headquarters.
When he got there, he decided to change everything concerning the church. It did  not matter whether for good or for bad, everything had to be changed.
He wanted to assert his authority. It did not matter what the congregation thought, he was the boss and we must obey his command.
Those who couldn’t bear it after some time began to leave the church. One Sunday morning, it dawned on him that a big mistake had been made.
A mere look will tell the whole story. A church that has a capacity of 300 – 350 worshippers on a weekly basis began to witness 20 – 40 worshippers. He was forced to visit members from house to house, but by then, it was already too late.
What he failed to realize is that to worship at a particular church is voluntary and that there are various alternatives to choose from. He forgot it was not all about him.
In leadership, what comes first is service. A lot has been written on servant leadership. Yet, many still find it difficult to see themselves as servants when they are in leadership positions.
According to William Penn, “He that does good for good’s sake seeks neither praise nor reward, though sure of both at last.”
Just as you expect good service, be willing to be the first to offer it.
Now that you know…
