Top banker and MD of Heritage Bank, Ifie Sekibo, is currently swimming in an alleged N605 million fraud. As a matter of fact, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, his prosecutors, have just dragged him before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over the scandalous allegation.
Also joined with Sekibo are Kolapo Kola Daisi and Greame Properties Limited. The suit number is FHC/C/95C/18.
Slamming the bespectacled banker who re-branded Heritage Bank with so much glee with a four-count charge, the first count accused him of acquiring N180 million, an amount said to be beyond his legitimate income and while still serving as an employee of the bank, via Greame Properties, a company said to be owned by him, fraudulently. Thus violating Section 7(1) of the Bank Employees, etc (Declaration of Assets) Act, Cap B1, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and which makes him liable for punishment under Section 7(2) of the same Act.
Secondly, Sekibo and Greame Properties Limited allegedly retained in a Diamond Bank account, 0006129214, and operated by Greame Properties, the sum of N180 million received from the account of Vlamings Professionals Limited, despite knowing that the said amount was a direct proceed from his unlawful activity.
Thirdly, EFCC accused Sekibo of acquiring N125, 321, 051. 05, an amount said to be beyond his legitimate income, from the Diamond Bank account of FIFC Development and Management Limited operated by him.
Lastly, Sekibo and Daisi, maintained the EFCC, allegedly conspired ‘to transfer the sum of N300 million proceeds of an unlawful activity’ into the account of Hiltrans Global Investment Limited ‘when you reasonably ought to know that the said fund was fraudulently withdrawn from the account of Heritage Bank Company Limited in Access Bank Plc.’
As at the time of writing this, no date had been fixed for the top banker’s arraignment.
