Embattled Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s arrest and detention by the DSS has finally been hinged on two things: alleged gunrunning and relationship with IPOB.
Abaribe, representing one of the senatorial districts in Abia State, served briefly as ex-Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s deputy before they fell out. He was said to have been picked up from the Nicon Hilton Hotel in Abuja where he had gone for a haircut and ever since has been in the DSS custody.
His lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, SAN, who spoke to the media recently corroborated YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine’s earlier findings. According to the learned silk, the allegations were contained in a search warrant dated June 22, 2018, and which was produced by the operatives who searched Abaribe’s home in the Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.
The opération which began around 5pm didn’t end till 11.15pm, and at the end of which the security team left with some documents, laptops, handsets and so on in over 20 Ghana-Must-Go bags.
Besides being one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s strongest critics in the Senate, Abaribe, alongside Chief Ostia Chidoka, a former Minister of Aviation and FRSC boss, stood as sureties for the proscribed Independent People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu’s whereabouts had been unknown for quite sometime now. And after the invasion of his home by soldiers in Umuahia, Abia State. Meanwhile, he is supposed to appear in court soon. Thus, the DSS may have resorted to arresting Abaribe to shed more light on that when the time comes.
Fears now abound that Kanu’s other sureties like Chidoka may also be invited or even be arrested soon. Especially as the court date draws closer.
