It’s all over! Former Senate Minority Leader and Uncommon Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has lost his reelection bid.
Akpabio, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, secured 67, 487 as against 136, 373 votes for Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
Interestingly, Ekpenyong was Akpabio’s Deputy during his first term in office. Both men, however, fell out along the way. And the former was replaced by Nsima Ekere, who is currently flying APC’s guber ticket in Akwa Ibom State.
Ekere and Akpabio equally fell out along the way. And the latter replaced him with Udom Emmanuel, a former topshot at Zenith Bank who is now his political nemesis.
Governor Udom Emmanuel and Akpabio disagreed midway into the administration. Emmanuel remained in PDP while Akpabio defected to APC, where he took another shot at the senate, and has now lost.
