Exactly 17 days to his son being sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Oba Olatunji Hamzat, father of Obafemi Hamzat, has died.
Oba Hamzat reportedly died in the afternoon of Sunday, May 12, 2019, plunging his entire family and friends into deep mourning.
One of them lamented to YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine thus: ‘This is just so, so sad. Death is so cruel. It should have just allowed the man to see his son becoming the second citizen of Lagos before taking him. I mean, this is not just fair at all.’
Continuing, the source added that the man, prior to his emergence as a traditional ruler in Ogun State (yes, Ogun), was among the most influential politicians in Lagos State – right from the days of AD to APC.
‘His house then, on Yaya Abatan Street, in Ogba, Lagos, used to be a beehive of political activities. Unfortunately, just days to his son and Babajide Sanwo-Olu becoming Deputy Governor and Governor respectively, the man died. It’s so painful! So sad and so inexplicable. Even though Allah knows best.
’All Progressives Congress, APC, is mourning, Lagos State is mourning, Ogun State is also mourning and everybody is mourning.’
The former leader of Justice Forum, a break away faction of the late Dapo Sarumi group, Primose, we learnt, will be buried tomorrow at his Ogba residence.
Born in 1935, the erstwhile banker contributed immensely to the coming into politics of Dr. Muiz Banire, SAN, a three-time commissioner in Lagos as well as former APC National Legal Adviser, among many others.
