Sometimes, and especially at that moment when we are almost becoming weary and worn out, all we need may be just one more knock.
Yes, oftentimes, just a knock makes all the difference. And my story with the man they fondly and deservedly address as the czar of advertising in Nigeria aptly buttresses this.
For those who may not know, I am talking about no other person than Mr. Biodun Shobanjo, Chairman, Troyka Holdings, comprising Insight Redefini, Quadrant MSL, Halogen Security, Optimum Exposures, to mention but a few.
I have always loved and admired him, his style, his business wizardry and nearly everything about him. And the closest I ever got to him, before things eventually changed, was sometime in 2003 or 2004 when my boss, Mr. Kunle Bakare and I went to interview him for Encomium Special.
Years later when I resigned to set up YES INTERNATIONAL! magazine, I started pursuing him, both for an interview and also for the YES INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE ANNUAL LECTURE SERIES, where I desired that he shared his success story.
A PR man par excellence, despite turning me down for three straight years, he always took out time to write me, congratulate me and then offer his reasons.
When it was time for our fourth anniversary, I decided to write him ‘JUST ONE MORE TIME’. And ‘pooooom’, it happened. He wrote back, promising to be there. Not just that, his PA, Mrs. Gloria Omoregie, contacted me and stayed in constant communication and consultation, making enquiries about this and that till the D-day.
True to his words, he arrived the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos venue on time, and even allotted us ‘extra time’ after the event, commending and advising us.
The icing on the cake, however, was that years later when I completed work on one of my books, The CEO’s Bible, I reached out to him again for the Foreword, and he gladly obliged me.
Dear friends, what is my message today? Just give it one more shot; don’t give up yet. You might be closer to making it than you think.
But even if that one more time doesn’t yield the desired results or dividends, continue to push and pedal till you achieve what you want.
Don’t give up, don’t lose hope, keep trying, keep knocking and keep pushing. The Lord, ultimately, will make you shine, soar and succeed.
Thanks so much for always being here for me and happy Saturday!
