Following the resolutions of the Ogun State Government at the stakeholders meeting with the Organised Labour Movement to chart a lasting solution to issues relating to workers welfare, Government has said that effective from the end of April 2016, Salaries of the Public and Civil Servants shall be paid using the Bank Verification Number (BVN) system.
While addressing pressmen after a-two hour closed door follow – up meeting between the Leadership of the Organised Labour Movement and officials of the State Government led by the State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga at her office in Abeokuta, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa said “Ogun State is Unique as we have continued to engage and dialogue with the Organised Labour, as part of our continued discussions, we have both agreed that we should take advantage of BVN system to ensure that our scare resources are not going to ghost workers”.
He added that, in view of this “we have agreed that starting from the end of April 2016, salaries will be paid using the BVN of all workers’’.
While responding on behalf of the Organised Labour Movement, the Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Comrade Olubunmi Fajobi and his counterpart at the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Abiodun Olakanmi said they were satisfied with the Government’s position on the need to use BVN for payment of salaries.
They however requested that the State Government should quickly look into other requests of the workers, maintaining that the Government BVN salary payment decision should be communicated to the civil servants through the State Head of Service.
On her part, the State Deputy Governor expressed delight with the fact that the State is living up to its billing as uniquely peaceful and that the peace talk with the Labour is yielding positive results.
