The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Saturday, May 21, 2016, arrested ex-President Ibrahim Babangida’s son in law and former Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Aliyu Shinkafi.
Married to IBB’s eldest child, Aisha, his arrest is allegedly in connection with the $115m (about N23 billion) disbursed by embattled erstwhile Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, during last the elections.
Arrested alongside the former Governor are his then Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Nahuce and Senator Hassan Nasiha, PDP Chairman in Zamfara.
The money which has already gotten a lot of people and companies into trouble allegedly passed through Fidelity Bank during the build up to the 2015 general elections. Especially the presidential election and as defeat then stared PDP in the face.
The fund was allegedly disbursed through Fidelity Bank, who incidentally their MD, Nnamdi Okonkwo, is still battling to wriggle himself out of.
The three men were still being detained as at the time of writing this.
Meanwhile, a statement by a former Minister of State for Finance, under President Goodluck Jonathan, Bashir Yuguda, allegedly linking them to N450 million campaign fund is believed to have necessitated their arrest.
