Alarmed by the gravity of her loss and overwhelmed by the wickedness exhibited by the security agents involved, the Parry Osayande – led Police Service Commission has waded into the dastardly killing of Lady Apostle Helen Ukpabio’s four siblings in one week!
The four of them – three brothers and one sister – were allegedly sent to the great beyond by one Noel Nduka and his team. The sad incident occurred on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in Mbente, Ini local government area of Awka Ibom State after Charles, Emmanuel and Joseph Akpabio were accused of kidnapping – an allegation the family has persistently denied. They were arrested after being tricked to Ikot Ekpene, then brought back to their village and executed before their mother, Mrs. Etim Akpabio. Their sister, Elizabeth, got back, heard the sad news and also died. Criticisms and condemnation have continued to trail the monumental tragedy.
A member of the Police Service Commission and Publisher/Editor in Chief of The Source magazine, Dame Comfort Obi, read the exclusive story in YES International! magazine of May 14, 2012, got all the details she needed from our reporter and immediately swung into action; protesting that such injustice must not stand. Not only did she bring the matter to the notice of her chairman, Osayande, she also did a piece on it in her paper.
Ukpabio and her lawyers have forwarded to them all the necessary papers they will need. Meanwhile, Ukpabio, founder of Liberty Gospel Church, Calabar, Cross River State, told us when we spoke with her again on Saturday, May 12, 2012 that she no longer sleeps. ‘I can’t sleep any more. Sleep has disappeared from my eyes since the shocking incident. Even my mother is now under close watch. We are afraid for her life. Because what has happened to her is too big. Losing four grown up children in one week is not an easy thing. If I cannot sleep, I wonder what she is passing through. But I have been praying about this incident and asking the Almighty God to see us through’.
