After several weeks of high-wired meetings, pulsating brain storming sessions and intensive consultations, the long awaited Entertainment Express and Sunday Express 3rd Anniversary Bash and Awards Nite will hold on Sunday, July 27, 2014. And for the first time since its inception three years ago, the high octane ceremony, holding at the upscale events and entertainment centre, Niteshift Coliseum, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos, will honour some leading entertainers, few high-net-worth individuals and deserving corporate bodies with the newly introduced Express Star Awards (ESA) trophies. Leading the roll call of honourees is Otunba Mike Adenuga, the founder and executive chairman of Globacom, Nigeria’s second national carrier. The billionaire philanthropist, fondly called The Guru, will be decorated with Nigeria’s Entertainment Pillar of the Decade Award. The special honour is in recognition of Adenuga’s matchless contributions to the development of the entertainment industry in Nigeria. Interestingly, a total of 17 entertainers drawn from Nollywood, music and comedy sectors will be recognized and rewarded at the historic night aimed at celebrating only the very best in entertainment. The six Nollywood stars already nominated for ESA Recognition Trophies are: Stephanie Okereke-Linus, Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki), Osita Iheme (Pawpaw), Jide Kosoko, alongside the duo of Tope Tadela and Lizzy Gold (New Faces). Also, seven worthy and wave making musicians will be going home with ESA Trophies. They include: Davido, Tiwa Savage, Omawumi, Yemi Sax, Oritse Femi and the duo of Phyno and Patoranking (Fresh Faces). Meanwhile, for their immense contributions to the growth and development of comedy business in Nigeria, the quartet of Opa Williams, Ali Baba, AY and Elenu, will be honoured with ESA Trophies at the grand gathering of the very best in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Meanwhile, Ken Calebs Olumese, the irrepressible founder of the oldest night club in the country and showbiz impresario, will be bedecked with the ESA Lifetime Achievement Trophy, for his invaluable offerings to the nation’s entertainment firmament. Also proudly nominated by the Board of Editors for recognition is the amiable governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio. For constantly and consistently supporting entertainers and entertainment activities within and outside his state, Akpabio will be ornamented with ESA’s Trophy of the Most Supportive Governor of Entertainment in Nigeria. To further encourage their huge support and immense assistance towards the growth and development of entertainment in Nigeria, Mr. Azuh Amatus, editor of Entertainment Express and Sunday Express, disclosed that four corporate brands have also been singled out for honour at the awards night. Star lager beer, Glo, MTN and Close Up will be rewarded with ESA Trophies as Corporate Supporters of Entertainment in Nigeria. “ESA 2014 is basically to celebrate the very best in Nigeria’s thriving entertainment industry as well as some corporate brands aiding the growth of entertainment in our nation”.
