Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has challenged youths to explore the job opportunities available in agriculture and other key sectors towards actualising their future goals and aspirations.
The governor, who was speaking at the Ogun State Youths Convention, which ended in Abeokuta yesterday, said this would reduce unemployment and crime rate in the society.
Amosun charged the youths to believe in themselves, be steadfast, resourceful and take full advantage of all they learnt during the convention.
He disclosed that the programme would hold annually, assuring that the state government and other development partners are willing to fund great ideas.
Amosun revealed that those interested in agriculture would be given not less than two hectares of land each.
In her Keynote paper, titled “Opportunities in Agriculture and Agribusiness”, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo noted that despite the values and importance of agriculture as a viable source of revenue generation, its potentials remain untapped, calling on youths to invest in it.
The commissioner further stressed the need for the youths to take the lead in the urgent move towards the diversification into agribusinesses and non oil sectors of the economy for quick recovery from current recession.
Earlier in his presentation, entitled “Accessing Job Opportunities in a Competitive Market”, the Founder, Jobberman Limited, Mr Olalekan Olude enjoined the youths to discover values and business ideas, rather than depending on their paper qualification or certificates to succeed.
