Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun has taken over responsibility of the education from primary to university level of nine-year old Master Korede Taiwo, who was chained and starved for over a month by his father.
Director of Child Development Services in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr Kehinde Egbeolowo, who disclosed this in Abeokuta yesterday, said Korede has been enrolled as a nursery one pupil in a private school with boarding facility in the state.
He said the state government was attracted to the sad incident following media reports, adding that Mrs. Amosun, who was moved by the maltreatment of the boy by his father, had decided to shoulder the responsibility for his education.
“Social responsibility is back on the front burner. Since the inauguration of the present administration in Ogun State, the wife of the state governor has been proactive and responsive to the immediate needs of the less privileged in the society, particularly the children at the Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home and Juvenile Remand Home in Abeokuta’’, he added.
Korede was rescued chained in a room by his father, Francis Taiwo, a pastor with the Celestial Church of Christ in Ajibawo, Atan area of the state.
The Police had arrested Taiwo and Korede’s step mother, while the boy was handed over to officials of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
