After a long wait and what seemed like eternity, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has finally settled for Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s man as his running mate for the February 14, 2015 presidential election.
Osinbajo, born on March 8, 1957, was also Tinubu’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General during his days as Lagos State Governor. Equally an active member of Tinubu’s legal team during his battle with the Code of Conduct Bureau, many had expected Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi to clinch the position. But unfortunately, he lost out. The other strong contenders who also lost out are Governor Adams Oshimhole of Edo State and Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State.
The pastor of Olive Tree, one of the richest Redeemed Christian Church of God parishes, it is situated inside the highbrow Banana Island, in Lagos and has the rich and mighty as parishioners. Osinbajo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is on the Board of African Development Bank. He is also a non-executive director of Citibank. A senior partner in Simmons-Cooper, a foremost law firm in the country, the Professor of Law was at a point the Head of Department, Public Law, at the University of Lagos. The author of several books and publications, his secondary education was at Igbobi College, Lagos and his LLB at the University of Lagos. His LLM came from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Married to Dolapo and blessed with three children, his brother, Akin, incidentally was also the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Ogun State under former Governor Gbenga Daniel. The Redeemed Christian Church of God where he is a top shot is currently rejoicing. More so, with the unconfirmed report that the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor E.A Adeboye, has given his blessings and prayers – allegedly assuring that they will triumph ultimately.
