Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, is not recanting. In fact, he’s insisting and reiterating that Nigeria is broke.
Speaking through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on a radio programme this morning, President Buhari repeated what he said days back in an interview with some journalists during a visit to India.
‘Nigeria is truly, truly broke…That’s what the President said…He met the treasury virtually empty and had to say so because he has said he won’t lie to Nigerians.
‘Yes, the country is broke…PDP vandalized Nigeria both morally and financially. Why won’t he talk about it? And that is why road projects are stalled, salaries can’t be paid…’
But firing back, Olisa Metuh, PDP’s Spokesperson, stated that APC should halt their narratives and swiftly go to work.
PDP, it would be recalled, had earlier accused the President of repeatedly demarketing Nigeria, washing and hanging our dirty linen outside each time he travels abroad. But countering them, the APC and the President’s media team are insisting that being a very straight forward man, Buhari will always tell Nigerians only the truth and nothing else. No colorations, no embellishments. Just the hard truth.
