Prophets have always played a very important part in unfolding the plan and purpose of God. The Bible has more to say about prophets. And from the Bible, we see two things. First; prophets are humble and sincere. Though, they serve an infallible God, in themselves they are not infallible.
Much, of course, has been said about the just concluded Nigeria’s presidential election which held on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Preachers of the gospel, ahead of the election, had delivered warnings and promises of God to the nation.
Primate Ayodele Elijah, the founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, was one of those who foretold the coming of ‘a new government’. And for the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, Primate Ayodele had said: “I see Jonathan winning by a very slim margin but he must obey God’s warnings by being careful of those that work with him”.
But because people usually criticize what they don’t understand, the prophet’s message was misread, while critics overlook the fact that there is a limit to which level we can all function in our spiritual ability.
In interviews granted to different newspaper houses, starting from 2012, divine messages concerning various happenings in Nigeria, regarding the last general elections, were revealed. And here are examples:
Inside Sunday Sun of December 28, 2014, Page 38, Ayodele said: “If the APC embarks on aggressive grassroots campaign, it will win in 2015, but if it is on Buhari’s past glory, it will lose. Jonathan will be the last PDP president”.
In City People magazine of January 8, 2014, Page 23, the seer said: “The 2015 elections will be challenging as the opposition party will win at the centre. Furthermore, Jonathan will be the last president PDP will produce”. In National Life newspaper of Saturday, February 4, 2012, Page 45, he warned that, “the Boko Haram insurgents will continue to make the government difficult to run. That is why Jonathan must forget re-contesting in 2015”. Inside Saturday Independent of June 9, 2013, Page 37: “PDP will have a very strong opposition this time around that will rattle them. The PDP is still going to break. Many of the people there are tired of the party because they are not doing things the right way. That is why Jonathan is the person to hand over to a credible president in 2015. He must not contest”. Inside Daily Champion of Wednesday, February 29, 2012, Page 43, Ayodele said: “Let President Jonathan not contest in 2015. The only way out for him is to conduct a credible election”. In Weekend Champion of June 16-17, 2012, Page 12, again he said: “The governors will gang up against Jonathan and the PDP will lose the central government in 2015”. Inside Global Excellence magazine of Tuesday, September 25-Monday October 01, 2012, Page 5, the prophet said: “President Jonathan’s 2015 ambition will break the governors into factions. Governor Mimiko should not leave the Labour Party and join the PDP”. In City People magazine of September 18, 2012, Page 52, the seer posited: “PDP will lose power at the centre in 2015. I foresee President Jonathan losing international support too. I foresee social media war”. In Weekend Champion of December 29-30, 2012, Page 12: “President Jonathan will not find it easy in the build up to the 2015 polls. If he insists on contesting, a strong candidate will come to slug it out with his government and (it) will not be easy. PDP must be careful so that crisis will not break it in 2015”. Inside Sunday Mirror of Sunday, December 23, 2012, Page 29, Ayodele foretold that: “There will be crisis among the Governors’ Forum that will seriously affect the PDP, if not checked”. Inside Saturday Vanguard of December 28, 2013, Page 53: “President Goodluk Jonathan’s second term is dicey. He will start some political abracadabra in order to gain his second term which will be characterized by so much negotiations”. In Daily Champion of December 24, 2014, the prophet foretold that: “If the APC embarks on prayers before the election, Buhari will give President Jonathan challenges in the North”. Inside Sunday Vanguard of November 2, 2014, Page 39, he enjoined the APC to “fast on the 27th, 28th and 29th of October 2014, if it must control the political machinery at the centre in 2015”. He equally asked President Jonathan to “go into 14 days fasting and prayers if he really wanted to contest in 2015”.
In Sunday Tribune of January 5, 2014, Page 56, Ayodele warned: “There will be divisions among the monarchs in the Southwest because of Jonathan’s second term. Northern Governors Forum will break in 2015 because of Jonathan’s ambition.” In The Nation on Sunday of January 18, 2015, Page 69, Primate Ayodele said, “Jonathan will be the last PDP president. I foresee a new government in this country”. In Sunday Mirror of March 15, 2013, Page 45, he said: “The 2015 election will be free and fair. Jonathan will lose out”. Inside ThisDay newspaper of Sunday, February 1, 2015, Page 82, Ayodele warned that “President Jonathan must go into 14 days of fasting and prayer if he wants to contest in 2015 because people within his party and outside will gang up against him”.
In Saturday Guardian of July 13, 2013, Page 13, he added that “Jonathan will not win in 2015”.
According to the preacher, this tells us that fulfilled prophecy is of God. It also proves that God spoke through His prophets as recorded in the Bible for our benefit today. “Fulfilled prophecy should motivate us to look at the prophecies of the future and realize that they will come to pass as well”, he concluded.
