The Court just keeps sacking our Senators. From Buruji Kashamu to David Mark and others, now it’s the turn of Uche Ekwunife. The political amazon from Anambra State just had her election voided by the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, with a fresh election ordered in 90 days.
Ekwunife’s ouster was as a result of an appeal filed by former All Progressives Grand Alliance Chairman and Senatorial candidate, Chief Victor Umeh. Ekwunife, a former member of the House of Representatives, it would be recalled, had floored Umeh in their political battle over who represents the people of Anambra Central in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
Delivering his lead judgement as regards the April 11, 2015 election, Justice Datijo Yahaya, maintained that Ekwunife’s election did not meet the prescriptions of the Electoral Act. Thus, her election was quashed and a fresh election ordered in the next 90 days.
Ekwunife, right now is one of the most powerful female politicians in Anambra State. She ran on the ticket of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
