Amid rising cases of COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to reopen secondary schools in the country, effective August 4, 2020. Although this would be for exit classes only.
The shocking news was contained in a statement issued on Monday, July 27, 2020 by Ben Bem Goong, Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Education.
According to him, the decision was reached after a meeting of stakeholders in the education sector on the same day.
However, only students in exit classes would be beneficiaries in order to participate in the West African Examination (WAEC) exercise scheduled to begin on August 17, 2020.
Expectedly, mixed reactions have been trailing the announcement. While some are in support, others are totally against it, suggesting instead that the Ministry exercises more patience lest the country is plunged into a COVID-19 disaster.
